New York has over 10,000 telephone booths, which the city administration has decided to replace with free public WiFi booths.

The booths will be equipped with a 1,000 Mbps internet link and in addition to free internet connection will also offer free local and 911 calls.

The booths will also have charging stations where users will be able to charge their phones.

Each booth will be able to access devices approximately 45m distant and will provide speed 20+ greater than normal household services.

Up to 250 devices will be able to access the free WiFi at each booth.
