European Green Capital Award for 2016, was presented on 24th June 2014 by EU Environment Commissioner, Janez Potočnik, at a ceremony in Copenhagen which was the green capital for 2014.
City of Ljubljana received this award for thanks to its sustainability strategy “Vision 2025”, its implementation of a range of urban green measures over the past decade, for raising environmental awareness amongst its citizens, and its impressive transportation network.
The European Green Capital Award represents an annual event that promotes and rewards the efforts of cities that are committed to improving the urban environment.
The Award is given to a European city that has demonstrated a well-established record of achieving high environmental standards and is committed to ongoing and ambitious goals for future environmental improvement and sustainable development.
