The European men’s handball championship is the official competition for senior men’s national handball teams of Europe, and takes place every two years. In addition to crowning the European champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the World Championship.

The 2012 EHF European Men’s Handball Championship is being held in Serbia from 15th – 29th January, 2012, in the cities of Belgrade (Pionir Hall and Belgrade Arena), Niš (Sport Centre Cair), Novi Sad (Sports and Business Centre Vojvodina) and Vršac (Millennium Hall). This is the tenth edition of the tournament. Germany and France were the other applicants for the championship.

The first European Championship ever was organised in 1994 in Portugal. Back then, only 12 teams were playing for the coveted trophy.

The 16 years of Euro history has seen five countries celebrating the final victory and only the finest teams could ever win a medal.
