The event was attended by over 40 representatives of local associations in various fields that had previously nominated Serbia as a destination of future meetings of international associations to which they belong. Delegates were also the partners of the Serbia Convention Bureau, representatives of the meetings industry: hotels, convention centers, agencies that are professionally engaged in organizing these types of events as well as the national airline Air Serbia.
Ambassadors Day and the establishment of the Club of Congress Ambassadors of Serbia was launched to recognize the people in our academic, scientific and professional community, giving recognition for their enthusiasm and work to promote the country, as well as encouraging future cooperation.
On this occasion, first Ambassadors of Serbia as a congress destination were named, as follows:
– PhD Ljiljana Medenica – President of 11th Spring Symposium of European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, held from 22nd to 24th May 2014, in Belgrade
– PhD Jovan Vasiljevic – President of 27th Congress of European Society of Pathology, to be held in September 2015, in Belgrade
They have in the past years, together with the meetings industry in Serbia, passed the whole process in preparing and obtaining candidacy for the maintenance of a large international events, with more than a thousand participants, so on that basis they are the first to bring this recognition.
In the future at similar meetings, Ambassadors Club will gather the growing number of members who have fought for Serbia to host major international events of the 2015 and onwards.
With establishment of such a club Serbia enters a small circle of countries in the world that have established such a program of cooperation, that will certainly contribute to the process of nomination to become significantly easier for all associations, which want to organize an international conference. And, at the same time to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of destination in Europe and more.
According to the latest ICCA statistics (International Congress and Convention Association), Serbia in last year had a record number of international conferences and is located in the top 50 countries in the world by number of organized congresses. In the list that displays the 350 most successful cities, Belgrade is on the 44th place and is currently fourth city in Eastern Europe after Prague, Budapest and Warsaw, and it became the first in the region. Also, on the list for the third year in a row, appears Novi Sad.
